Cadet Captain Casey Owen receives the Brewer Aerospace Award during National Conference
Cadet Captain Casey Owen was awarded the Frank G Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award (Cadet Category) during the 2017 Civil Air Patrol National Conference held in San Antonio, Texas. Cadet Owen joined the Eau Claire Composite Squadron a little over two years ago. Currently he serves as the unit’s Cadet Commander.
Owen has been a driving force in the squadron’s aerospace program. As part of this program he developed a balsa wood glider program, which the unit uses to teach the aerodynamics of flight. Owen also earned his Private Pilot’s Certificate recently. He uses that experience to help cadets learn the fundamentals of flight through activities such as flight simulators and learning about aeronautical charts. Owen lead the unit’s Rube Goldberg Competition team which garnered the squadron a radio-controlled airplane kit.
Owen’s pursues his love of aviation not only in CAP. As an active member of the Boyceville Hangar Owners & Pilots Association he assists with fly-ins, tracking airport usage and participates in airplane restorations.
