Eau Claire unit continues to be busy

Eau Claire, Wis. – Members of the Eau Claire Composite Squadron have been making the most of this summer with CAP activities and opportunities. The squadron sent 15 cadets to the Summer Encampment at Volk Field ANGB. One of the squadron’s cadets, Cadet Staff Sergeant Sophie Kuehn, earned a Commander’s Commendation for her performance at the Cadet Development Course.

Squadron members also recently participated in two community-based events. The unit supported National Night Out in Menominee, Wis. and participated in the “Business at the Chippewa Valley Airport” event.

Two cadets spent a part of their summer attending National Cadet Special Activities. C/CMSgt Casey Owen attended the Aircraft Manufacturing and Maintenance Academy in Independence, Okla. During the week-long school Cadet Owen helped construct airplanes at the Cessna facility located there. He also spent ten days at National Blue Beret where he helped support the EAA AirVenture Airshow.

C/MSgt Christopher Ofelt also attended two National Cadet Special Activities this summer. First he attended Pararescue Jumping Orientation Course held at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. During this week long activity he learned about land navigation, wilderness survival, rock climbing, and rappelling from Air Force Pararescue Jumpers. He also attended the Air Force Civil Engineering Academy held at Tyndall AFB in Florida. During this activity he learned about civil engineering from members of the 823rd Red Horse Squadron. Cadets learned about heavy equipment operation, explosive ordinance disposal, map making, emergency management, water purification, and more.
