Eau Claire Squadron gets into Aerospace!
On Thursday, January 7th the Eau Claire Squadron started two new sections of Aerospace Education. The two sections, which will be focused on over the next year, are Flight Simulator Training and Elastic Launch Gliders.
Ten cadets started working on the new Flight Simulator program. Senior Member Mike Scott, a new member who is also a Certified Flight Instructor, started the section with a presentation devoted to aviation fundamentals. Over the next 6 months he and Major Corey Miller will use the unit’s three flight simulators to work with the cadets on basic flight skills.
The second program is the Elastic Launch Glider Program. This program received an Air Force Association grant of $250. Sixteen cadets will work on assembling the launchers for the gliders. These launchers will be used throughout the program and the first group of cadets in the program have the honor of building them. The Elastic Launch Glider program will help to teach the cadets the aerodynamic topics of glide slope, stalls, trim, weight/balance, wing loading and the effects of thrust at launch.
