Wisconsin Wing holds successful training academy
More than 30 members from across the state converged on Volk Field recently to spend the weekend enhancing their mission management skills. During the weekend students worked on a simulated mission that involved a mock missing aircraft and subsequent mission tasking to take aerial photos, fly search missions, and track an Emergency Locator Transmitter signal. The twist for this training was that none of the students went out and did those tasks. Instead the Mission Base Staff and Communications Academy focused on how members would execute the mission from the management side.
Members trained on how to be Mission Staff Assistants, radio operators, Incident Commanders and other Command and General Staff jobs. These positions do not do the field work for missions, but provide critical mission management services. Students in the Communications Academy had the opportunity to complete their Introductory Communications User Training and to become familiar with the wing’s Mobile Command Center.
Both cadet and adult members comprised the 30+ student body. Members hailed from around the state including La Crosse, Appleton, Milwaukee, Madison, and elsewhere.
