Eau Claire cadets earn Mitchell Awards

On October 15th at the National Guard Armory in Eau Claire, Cadet Second Lieutenants Joshua Kelso and Lauren Vassios received the General Billy Mitchell Award from Colonel Rose Hunt, the Wisconsin Wing Commander.  The General Billy Mitchell Award marks a cadet’s midpoint in the CAP Cadet Program. With the award comes a promotion into the cadet officer corps where cadets take on advanced leadership positions.

Kelso is a junior at Osseo High School and has been a Civil Air Patrol member for nearly three years.  He joined to prepare himself for becoming an Air Force Airman.  Presently he serves as a flight commander where he guides 20 other CAP cadets.  .

Vassios is a senior at Menomonie High School and has been a member for three years.  She credits CAP with developing her leadership and interpersonal skills. Currently she serves as the unit’s Cadet Commander and as the chairperson for the statewide Cadet Advisory Council.
