Waukesha cadet earns Colonel Mary Feik flight scholarship

IMG_4093Civil Air Patrol cadets and flying go hand-in-hand, and thanks to a Colonel Mary Feik Scholarship the dream of becoming a pilot is closer to reality for Cadet First Lieutenant Olga Boukhvalova. Cadets use the $1500 scholarship for local flight training at an FBO, training on CAP aircraft with a CAP instructor, or to pay for a CAP flight academy.

Competition for the annual scholarships is strong. Last year more than 400 cadets applied for a scholarship. The scholarship has qualifying requirements that may make it of interest to other CAP cadets. To apply a cadet must:

  • Have earned the Wright Brothers Award. This is different than most other CAP scholarships which require at least the Mitchell Award typically.
  • Must be 15 years old by June 1. Most flight scholarships require a cadet to be 16 in order to apply.

Cadets and parents can find out more about the Feik scholarship as well as all the flight scholarships that CAP has to offer on the Flight Scholarship page at CAP’s national website.
