Waukesha Squadron recognizes top performers
The Waukesha Squadron of the Wisconsin Wing of the Civil Air Patrol recently hosted its annual squadron awards banquet at the AT&T Corporate Headquarters Conference Center. About 90 members and attended the event to celebrate the squadron’s achievements. On hand to present awards and speak about the activities and accomplishments of the squadron in 2014 were First Lieutenant Robert Burnell, the unit’s commander, and the unit’s two deputy commanders Lieutenant Colonel Roy Bendler and Captain Scott Schuman.
During the awards portion of the banquet, several members received awards for achievement, service and activities. Representatives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and other veteran’s groups spoke and presented awards to cadets and seniors.
Cadet Second Lieutenant Austin Witthun received the Cadet of the Year Award in recognition of outstanding leadership, academic excellence and exemplary participation. First Lieutenant Joanne Murphy earned recognition as the unit’s Senior Member of the Year. Cadet Senior Airman Christopher Schuman received the Spark Plug Award from the Squadron for his high participation as a new cadet and energetic attitude through 2014.
The District 2 Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars presented Cadet First Lieutenant Jacob Bane with the VFW Cadet Officer of the Year Award and Cadet Senior Master Sergeant Cassandra Jehly with the VFW Cadet NCO of the Year Award.
Staff Sergeant Victor Johnson of the Air Force Association was on hand to present the Air Force Association Outstanding Cadet of the Year Award to Cadet First Lieutenant Olga Boukhvalova in recognition of outstanding achievement in leadership and academic standing. The Air Force Sergeants Association representative Bill Rheingans presented two awards for outstanding performance as a cadet non-commissioned officer to Cadet Senior Master Sergeant Alyssa Ward and Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Teddy Evert.
Jay Orthmann, of the Wisconsin Chapter of the AT&T Veterans Association, recognized a number of members with the “Rethink Possible” Award for their leadership and service to others. Receiving this award were: Cadet Second Lieutenant Amanda Schuman, Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Geet Pandya, Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Alex Vargo, Second Lieutenant Natalie Boukhvalova, and Second Lieutenant Michelle Witthun.
Besides the awards, a number of cadets also received promotions during the evening:
- Cadet Jordan Evans and Cadet Martin Mueller promoted to Cadet Airman.
- Cadet Cameron Evans and Cadet Andy Butsch promoted to Cadet Airman First Class.
- Cadet Blake Py earned the title of Cadet of the Quarter and promoted to the rank of Cadet Senior Airman.
- Cadet Cassi Jehly earned her seventh promotion, promoting to Cadet Senior Master Sergeant.
- Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Teddy Evert was recognized for completing the Neil Armstrong Achievement.
