State Department of Administration Secretary, Huebsch presents awards to Civil Air Patrol cadets
La Crosse, Wis. – After six years of hard work, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Michael Ebert has reached the end of the road. This past Saturday, State Department of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch, a long-time West Salem resident and member of the Wisconsin CAP Legislative Squadron, presented Ebert with the General Ira C. Eaker Award.
At the same ceremony Secretary Huebsch presented Cadet Captain John Brennan with his Amelia Earhart Award. The Earhart Award is the third of five cadet milestone awards in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program.
The Ira C. Eaker Award is the fourth of five CAP Cadet Program awards and marks the formal end of the cadet program. Less than two percent of all CAP cadets earn the Eaker Award. Ebert’s accomplishment marks the first time a La Crosse cadet has earned the Eaker Award in more than six years and makes Ebert only the second Cadet Lieutenant Colonel currently serving in Wisconsin
During his cadet career Ebert has racked up a series of accomplishments including his private pilot’s certificate, he has served as the unit’s cadet commander, worked in state-level leadership roles, has earned nominations to all five military service academies and has been offered a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship to the UW-Madison.
The Amelia Earhart Award is the third cadet milestone award in which only 15% of CAP cadets reach this level nationally. Brennan currently serves as the squadron’s cadet commander and has held multiple leadership roles in the squadron. During his cadet career Brennan has also attended the Air Force Para-rescue Jumping Orientation Course and he currently participates in the unit’s flight training program.
Brennan’s award promotes him into the fourth and final phase of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program. After graduation Brennan plans to attend Texas A&M University as part of the university’s Air Force ROTC program.
Prior to the awards ceremony three cadet promotions were also presented:
- Cadet Airman Basic Nathan Warner was promoted to Cadet Airman
- Cadet Airman First Class Brian Gabrielson was promoted to Cadet Senior Airman
- Cadet Airman First Class Aiden Erickson was also promoted to Cadet Senior Airman.
