Emergency Service Update – ELT mission a success
On August 2, Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol was tasked with an electronic locator transmitter (ELT) mission by Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC). The Madison control tower heard a 243MHz ELT on field, but its operations folks were unable to track the signal.
The Madison 153rd Composite Squadron ground team was dispatched to locate and silence the ELT, which it did at 9:23 p.m. The ELT was found in a C-310 on the field. The ELT was malfunctioning and transmitted only on 243MHz (no 121.5 signal)
