Wisconsin Wing to welcome National Commander to upcoming conference
Waukesha, Wis. – The Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol celebrates its 70th anniversary during the annual conference this year at the Marriot Hotel and Resort in Waukesha, the weekend of April 27-29. Timmerman Composite and 10th Senior Support Squadrons, both located at the Timmerman Airport in Milwaukee, are the hosts for this year’s event.
In what is thought to be a first for Wisconsin Wing, Major General Charles Carr, Jr., Civil Air Patrol’s national commander, is attending the three day event. Carr, a native of Ohio and former Great Lakes Region commander, is believed to be the first national commander to ever attend the festivities.
Special guests at this year’s conference are Brigadier General John E. McCoy, USAF, and Wisconsin’s Assistant Adjutant General for Air and Colonel Christopher Charney, USAF Director of Intelligence, Wisconsin Joint Force Headquarters.
Other distinguished Civil Air Patrol dignitaries who will be attending are Dr. Jeff Montgomery, Civil Air Patrol Deputy Director of Aerospace Education and Colonel Robert Karton, Civil Air Patrol Great Lakes Region commander.
Special breakout sessions are planned to help teach and encourage the all-volunteer membership. Guest speakers this year are Mrs. Rose Dorcey, President of Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame; Mr. John Dorcey, operations manager for the Wittman Regional Airport & aviation expert; Mr. Kinney Adams, senior storm chaser, Tempest Tours Storm Chasing Expeditions; Mr. Chuck Boie, Mitchell Gallery of Flight & General Billy Mitchell expert; and Ms. Marcia Cronce, National Weather Service meteorologist & aviation forecaster.
Capping off the festivities Saturday evening is the Wing of Excellence Academy Awards Banquet. Wisconsin Wing members, who have been nominated for year-end awards for their hard work and dedication, will be honored during the banquet.
Those winning the awards are also eligible for the Great Lakes Region Award which will also be announced during the banquet. The recipients of the region awards in turn are eligible for their respective National Award. This year’s Civil Air Patrol National Conference is to be held in Baltimore, Maryland August 22-25.
