A night of promotions for members at Racine Composite Squadron

Racine, Wis. – Members of Civil Air Patrol’s Racine Composite Squadron gathered at the Racine Army National Guard Armory as four of their members were promoted on April 12.

First Lieutenant Ed Hernandez was promoted to Captain and Senior Member Mark Bulanow was promoted to Second Lieutenant.  The squadron commander, Captain Amanda Grandke along with Lieutenant Colonel Tom Gordon, deputy commander for seniors, promoted Hernandez and Bulanow.

Cadet Chief Master Sergeants Alyssa Polasky and Adam J. (AJ) Long were promoted to Cadet Second Lieutenant after reaching a milestone in the cadet program and receiving the General Billy Mitchell Award.

The award is the second cadet milestone achievement, is earned after the successful completion of the first eight achievements of the cadet program.  In addition to the achievements, the cadet must pass a comprehensive examination on aerospace and leadership.  Only 15% of all Civil Air Patrol cadets achieve the award.

Lieutenant Colonel Julie Sorenson, Southeast Group commander and the squadron Lieutenant Colonel Tamara Toussaint, deputy commander for cadets, promoted Polasky and Long.

As a previous Racine Composite Squadron commander and Southeast Group commander, Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Curry was also in attendance to assist with the promotions.
