Appleton, Wis. – Fox Cities Composite Squadron experienced the time honored tradition of the Change of Command Ceremony on Tuesday, December 13.  Major Robert Koehler relinquished command after serving for nearly two years, with Major Donna Daniels assuming command of the unit.

Daniels has held and will continue to hold the Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) leadership position at the Wisconsin Wing level.  She brings with her the same level of passion as commander to the Fox Cities Composite Squadron as she has had with the DDR position.

Serving with Daniels on the command staff for Fox Cities are Major Karl Kuether as deputy commander for seniors, Major Nina Schmitt as deputy commander for cadets and Major Terrance Schmitt as executive officer.

Under Koehler’s command, the Fox Cities Composite Squadron color guard team placed third overall at the National Cadet Competition after winning the Wisconsin and Great Lakes Region cadet competitions.  The cadets also participated in the CyberPatriot competition for two years and have planned and implemented field training exercises for emergency services.

When not commanding the squadron, Koehler pursued his lifelong dream and worked on his architect licensure exams.

Also stepping down was Cadet Second Lieutenant Mitchell Lichtenwald who served as cadet commander.  Giving an encouraging speech to his cadets and unit, he cited personal experiences and conversations he has had with other cadet commanders.  He often described the Fox Cities Composite Squadron cadets as ones who strive for excellence.  His outstanding service to Fox Cities Composite Squadron and the Wisconsin Wing will be missed and was greatly appreciated.

Those in attendance of the evening’s festivities were Captain John Hoffmann, USAF Civil Air Patrol Reserve Assistance Program (CAPRAP), Wisconsin Wing vice-commander Major Rose Hunt, Lieutenant Colonels Jeff Thompson, Wisconsin Wing Chief of Staff for Mission Support; Harvey Moss, Northeast Group commander and Steve Kohler, Northeast Group deputy commander and emcee for the evening.

Distinguished guest was Carl Soderburg from Representative Reid Ribble’s Wisconsin office. Soderburg presented Daniels with a Certificate of Outstanding Community Service from Representative Reid Ribble.

Cadet Chief Master Sergeants Evan Thomsen and Jacob Rueter received their Armstrong Achievements while Daniels was presented her Loening Achievement by Maj. Hunt.
