Members Receive Awards during Commander’s Call for Service in CAP

Wisconsin – During the bi-annual commander’s call this past weekend in Madison at the Department of Military Affairs building, sixty squadron and group commanders, along with wing staff, witnessed several members receive awards for their service in Civil Air Patrol.

Receiving Command Service Ribbons for successfully completing their first year as a squadron commander were:

  • First Lieutenant Terese Barta, Stevens Point Composite Squadron
  • Major Gary Mader, Ozaukee Composite Squadron located in Grafton
  • First Lieutenant Ben Unger, Waukesha Composite Squadron

Colonel Clarence Peters, wing commander, received the Silver Star for successfully completing his first year as wing commander.

Chief of Staff for Missions, Major Jeff Thompson was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and also received his Incident Command Level Three rating.

First Lieutenant Terese Barta also received the Commander’s Commendation for her exceptional service.

Lieutenant Colonel Denese Helgeland, North-Central group commander, received the Exceptional Service Award for her work in the wing.  Helgeland was also named as the new Director of Operations for Wisconsin Wing replacing Lieutenant Colonel Gerald Krueger who recently retired from the position.

Captain Thomas Kondziella, commander of Timmerman Composite Squadron located in Milwaukee, received the Grover Loening Award, completing level three in professional development.

Major Chris Klein, national advisor of logistics, was presented the Exceptional Service award by Colonel Edward Phelka, national controller.
